MW Builders Selected for Kiowa, KS Hospital Design-Build
MW Builders is providing complete Design-Build services for the 25,300 square foot rural hospital in Kiowa, Kansas. MW Builders, in conjunction with GLMV Architecture, conducted a feasibility study in which various options were considered. Kiowa District Hospital determined that a replacement hospital would best serve the healthcare needs of Barber County by providing an energy-efficient, modern facility which successfully addresses the healthcare needs of the community, increases staff efficiencies, and attracts new healthcare providers.
MW Builders, GLMV Architecture and Kiowa District Hospital collaborated to develop a conceptual design for the replacement hospital. The concept allows for a rural clinic consisting of eight exam rooms, special procedure room and four offices; an imaging suite consisting of:
- CT Scan
- a two-bay trauma emergency department
- an operating room suite with restricted access
- a central laboratory
- a central nurse station with direct access to the emergency department
- and eight private patient rooms with individual accessible restrooms
The hospital and clinic share a common entry and waiting area with accessible public restrooms. The facility is master-planned to allow for future expansions to respond to changing healthcare procedures and needs in the 21st century. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in April 2013 and be completed by April 2014.
