LARGEST STRUCTURAL CONCRETE PLACEMENT EVER ATTEMPTED
ON U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS PROJECT - FORT HOOD, TX
On April 21 MW Builders successfully placed almost 900 cubic yards of concrete on the Physical Fitness Facility located at the West Fort Hood reservation. The 18,200 square foot section was the largest structural concrete placement ever attempted on a Corps of Engineers project at Fort Hood. Despite concerns from COE personnel about the ability to deliver required concrete mixes in a timely manner and enough manpower to place and finish the section, the placement went off without any delays and provided the customer with an excellent finished product.
The on-site staff led by Ryan Meyers, Superintendent, and CQC staff members, David Rutland and
John Halley, provided constant surveillance over the placing and finishing operations and at the same time, monitored safety activities to assure a safe working environment for the night time placement. In addition, project manager, Mark Sitz assisted by monitoring all the CQC lab testing procedures and fabrication of required compressive strength specimens as well as documenting all test results for CQC records. Mr. Chad Auldridge, paving foreman for another ongoing project at Fort Hood provided additional assistance by monitoring and assuring that finished floor smoothness requirements were being achieved.
Concrete for the post-tension slab was placed in nine hours and when the final finish was complete, it was obvious that a successful placement had been accomplished. This would not have been possible if not for the professionalism exhibited by the on site MW team. They are a credit to themselves and MW Builders and should be commended for their efforts.
